Why are my headlights no longer clear? Remastered UDoIt 1,048,825 Views • 1 month ago

⁣⁣In this video we answer the question "Is it possible to restore your headlights to factory new?" Headlight covers are made of plastic and over time they oxidize and become hazy or yellowish. This is because more dangerous over time as your headlight brightness diminishes. To restore your headlights you need to remove the oxidized plastic. To remove it, there is a graduated process to sand down the headlights and finally buff them.

3M provided a solution to do just that. The 3M Headlight Restoration System 39008 comes complete with sanding discs, a buffing pad, buffing compound, and an arbor. The 3M Headlight Restoration System was created to help you restore your headlights own your own without visiting an autobody shop or car detailer. I have foggy headlights. It appears that the plastic lens on the headlight oxidizes or becomes damaged by the sun. The restoration kit contains fine grit sandpaper that can be used to sand down the headlight lens followed by the last step which buffs the lens with a buffing compound and a buffing applicator. I am very impressed with this headlight restoration kit. To use this kit you will need a drill. I used a rigid right-angle drill for the headlight restoration.

I purchased two kits. One for my son's car and one for my truck. There are enough sanding discs and buffing compounds to easily restore the headlights of three cars. In other words, I only needed to purchase one kit for two vehicles.

After you are finished with the Headlight Restoration you may want to apply the 3M Quick Headlight Clear Coat, which protects the headlights for twice as long (when followed immediately after using the 3M Headlight Restoration kit).
